Takowasa (Japanese - Appetizer) Recipe

Thinly sliced raw octopus marinated in a zesty sauce made with wasabi, soy sauce, and vinegar. Takowasa offers a refreshing and spicy appetizer option, highlighting the unique texture and flavor of octopus.
Ingredients:
  • Octopus - 10.6oz (300g)
  • Soy sauce - 3 tbsp
  • Rice vinegar - 2 tbsp
  • Wasabi - 1 tsp
  • Sugar - 1 tsp
  • Spring onion - 1 stalk
  • Ginger - 1 knob (1 inch)
Instructions
  • Rinse the octopus under cold water and pat dry with a paper towel. Slice the octopus as thinly as possible.
  • In a small bowl, mix together soy sauce, rice vinegar, wasabi, and sugar until sugar has dissolved.
  • Finely mince the spring onion and ginger, then mix them into the sauce.
  • Add the sliced octopus to the sauce and gently mix until each slice is coated in the sauce.
  • Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to blend.
  • Serve the Takowasa chilled, garnished with additional sliced spring onion or wasabi as desired.
